Mt Gilead State Park

Nice little campground with good facilities, trails, and playgrounds. Sites are shaded but a bit too close together.

A small wooded campground with disappointing facilities. Nice drive through bison herd pasture and short hike to a waterfall.

Buffalo Bill State Park

Beautiful views of the lake and surrounding hills. This is a nice but basic state park just outside Yellowstone's east entrance.

Riverside State Park

Pretty little park by the river. Unfortunately the homeless situation on the road into the park makes this campground feel a bit unsafe.

Potholes State Park

A very well maintained park with mediocre facilities located close to I-90. Potholes State Park would make a great home base for local fishing trips.

Umpqua Lighthouse State Park

Quiet little campground on the Oregon coast. We loved the facilities and proximity to the beautiful coastline. It even had a nice trail around the lake.

Wonderful small campground with access to a beautiful ocean beach. Clean facilities and a few nice hikes will bring us back to this campground.

Sugarite Canyon State Park

This is a great small park close to I-25 just south of the Colorado border. It's a great stopping point when we travel south for the winter since it's open year round and has electric and water hookups.

Palo Duro State Park

Texas

Palo Duro State Park

This park is home to the country's second largest canyon (the Grand Canyon of Texas). Explore the beautiful, colorful cliffs and history while driving, camping, hiking, biking and horseback riding. There are also more opportunities to discover in the heart of the Texas panhandle in nearby Amarillo.

Wonderful state park just 45 minutes from Cheyenne with hiking, biking, boating and fishing. A great base camp for visiting the Snowy Range.
